Walking as a Practice

Project Type:
Design Philosophy Personal Practice

Since:
2006

When we move, we think. I credit my undergraduate professor, Larry Clarkson for helping me establish a creative practice and philosophy tied to exploration and place. Akin to writing or publishing, our movement across the earth leaves an impression. In the built environment, our footsteps may barely be recorded, whereas in sensitive ecological environments, our footsteps may last eons. Being careful and conscious of where I am treading is a tenant of my practice. It is essential for gaining an understanding of the natural world. It is a rewarding experience and helps me find balance and purpose in being an artist and designer.
