Maps were one of the entries points I had into graphic design. As a child, I remember learning how to navigate and triangulate my position using a map and compass. The physicality of USGS topographic maps was a rich playground for my imagination and an essential part of planning the many outdoor adventures—an essential part of my education. During the COVID-19 pandemic being grounded, I began the process of formally teaching myself how to utilize GIS software.
